Heritage

I've never considered searching my heritage until earlier this year when my husband, John, and I began the journey of prospective fostering.  (What a journey we've been on just getting through the assessment process!)
One of the areas we spent time on was the importance of identity and building memory blocks for each baby or child we may have to look after, perhaps starting a life book with them, and investigating their heritage for them.
It's made me wonder about my own heritage, where do I come from - were my family descended from a long line of committed Christians or has it been a recent generational conversion.  I want to explore this if I can, and also what I can do to pass on our rich heritage to our 4 children.
Last week I was reading through the Ten Commandments, and struck once again of the liberty we have in being able to read about these, and access resources to instill them into our children.  IN those days, the commandments were passed down from generation to generation.
The bible tells us (Deuteronomy 6:5-7) to, 'Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your heart.  Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up'
This must be a key area of passing on our heritage from generation to generation. But how do I do that!
Well, the Lord has asked me (and you) to do that so I can only assume He will equip me with the tools and ability to do so.  I need to learn how to use those tools effectively, and I will document as I go along!
